iPhone 15 Pro: Everything We Know

Apple recently unveiled its latest high-end flagship smartphones, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which are now part of their smartphone lineup alongside the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. These iPhone 15 Pro variants come packed with an enhanced feature set not found in the standard iPhone 15 models, boasting advancements in camera technology, improved displays, a speedier A17 chip, and more.

Maintaining the same 6.1 and 6.7-inch sizes as the preceding iPhone 14 Pro models, the iPhone 15 Pro models exhibit a similar design with some notable alterations. Instead of the customary stainless steel frame, Apple has opted for a novel titanium alloy, also utilized in spacecraft construction, and introduced fresh titanium color options such as white, black, natural, and blue. Notably, titanium is lighter than stainless steel, resulting in reduced weight for the iPhone 15 Pro models compared to their iPhone 14 Pro predecessors.

Titanium

So strong. So light. So Pro.

iPhone 15 Pro is the first iPhone to feature an aerospace-grade titanium design, which uses the same alloy that spacecraft uses for missions to Mars. Titanium has one of the best strength-to-weight ratios of any metal, making it the lightest Pro models ever.

Additionally, Apple has refined the design, resulting in a frame with more gracefully contoured edges and notably slimmer display bezels. The front of the iPhone continues to benefit from the robust Ceramic Shield material by Apple, acclaimed as the most resilient glass utilized in smartphones.

Continuing the trend from the previous year, Apple maintains the use of the same Super Retina XDR Display, complete with Always-On display functionality and a ProMotion refresh rate of 120Hz. The iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts a resolution of 2796x1290, while the iPhone 15 Pro features a resolution of 2556x1179. With the exception of the reduced bezel size, no changes have been made to the display, and it retains the Dynamic Island feature at the top.

Departing from the Lightning port, the iPhone 15 Pro models now integrate a USB-C port, offering USB 3 transfer speeds of up to 10Gb/s. Charging is now facilitated using a USB-C cable, providing a unified charging solution across the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Furthermore, the USB-C port allows for direct charging of AirPods or an Apple Watch using an iPhone. The option for 15W MagSafe charging remains available, and Apple has introduced support for Qi2 wireless charging.

The introduction of a customizable Action button, inspired by the one found on the Apple Watch Ultra, takes the place of the mute switch. This adaptable button can be configured for a variety of functions, including launching the camera, activating the flashlight, recording voice memos, or triggering shortcuts. The Action button seamlessly integrates with the Dynamic Island, delivering both visual and haptic feedback to enhance the user experience.
